Separating the factual grounding from the actual drafting saves hours of tedious cleanup down the line. Fits the "right tool for the job" mindset perfectly.
NotebookLM starts from sources you give it, which is the whole point of it, but half the time I don't have sources, just a topic I'm curious about or i’m on the move. I built daybrain which does everything after the prompt and emails you a narrated episode a few minutes long. It's https://daybrain.app/?src=62 if anyone wants to try it (I made it, so obviously biased). Web only for now, the iOS app is still in TestFlight. If your starting point is your own PDFs, notebooklm is still the better fit.
thanks for this. I realize the past couple months i let claude run a little rampant and if impacted my decision making in not so wonderful ways. I'm really working to reign in the usage, slow down, and get back to the basics of what works. I notice for me, the shift from productive to "harmful" came when shifted from walled projects to an "OS" build that sort of created infinite memory, and too much cross-bleed.
Oh man, thank you for sharing that. I've definitely felt the same thing, especially when time is running short and it's tempting to take shortcuts. I think that defaulting to a plan or strategy that was created when you were clear-minded is the most important piece.
I've drifted away from using NotebookLM but after reading this I'll def be reconsidering when I should be using this over Claude - some great insights, thanks!
I use AI very differently once the source material matters. I’d rather spend longer getting the material right upfront than spend twice as long later wondering which parts it made up. Notebook LM didn't let me down on this.

I use an map that allows Claude to read my notebook lm notebooks so it works seamlessly
