Think of a magnifying glass. It doesn’t change the object, it just helps you see it more clearly. That’s how I view artificial intelligence in leadership. AI doesn’t replace wisdom, vision, or relational intelligence. It simply amplifies what’s already there.
And that’s both powerful and dangerous.
Used well, AI can help us make better decisions, spot patterns, and serve people more efficiently. But if leaders outsource their discernment, they risk replacing intuition with automation and calling it progress. The key is not whether you use AI, but how.
“It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.”
— Proverbs 19:2
Three Ways AI Can Help Without Dehumanizing Leadership
1. Use AI to inform, not decide
Let data shape your questions, but not dictate your values. When AI helps you notice patterns or uncover insights, use it to clarify your judgment, not substitute it.
2. Protect time for human insight
Don’t let tools crowd out thinking time. The faster decisions come, the more space you need for reflection. Leaders must slow down long enough to interpret what really matters.
3. Make AI accountable to your mission
Before integrating any new tool, ask: Will this help us love people better? Will this make us more just, more wise, or more faithful to our calling? If the answer is no, proceed with caution.
Technology is never neutral. It either serves your mission or distracts from it. You get to decide which.
Where could AI serve your mission without replacing the heart of your leadership?
